Inside Nidia’s Internship at TwentyTwo

Seven weeks ago, I came into the TwentyTwo office for the first day of my internship feeling both excited and nervous, unsure of how it would go. Fast forward to the end of my internship, I am walking away with a bunch of practical skills and a newfound confidence that I will take with me into the next chapter of my career. The past seven weeks went beyond my expectations and I could not have asked for a better internship experience!

From Student to Intern

As an aspiring marketer in the final semester of my Bachelor of Business Management, I knew I wanted to make the most out of my semester and gain as much internship experience as I could before entering full-time work.

When I discovered that TwentyTwo’s internship program covered SEO, Content Marketing and Paid Media, key areas of marketing I wanted to refine my skills in, I knew this was exactly the experience I was seeking. After scrolling through TwentyTwo’s engaging Instagram page and reading a few intern blogs (like the one you are reading now), I decided to take the step to apply!

The Experience

From the first day, I was welcomed to the team with open arms. The supportive and inclusive team culture, along with an inspiring leadership team, was what really made my experience and supported my growth. Being surrounded by an experienced and talented group of people gave me the opportunity to learn something new everyday.

Unlike typical internships, the program here at TwentyTwo offers a structured learning path and a well-rounded experience. The internship was split into three milestones, allowing me to focus on a key area of marketing every two weeks, while working with different members of the team and getting involved with different client projects.

During my internship, I had the opportunity to create social media content for various clients, write SEO-optimised blogs, and set up ad campaigns. Through these experiences, I was able to develop practical skills in copywriting, content planning, and grow my familiarity with platforms such as Figma, Google Analytics, and Mailchimp. I was provided the support and training needed to thrive in my internship, from skill workshops to regular check-ins with my manager.

No two days at TwentyTwo are the same, which made each one full of exciting new opportunities to learn. Going into the office with a lively and positive atmosphere became something I genuinely looked forward to. From ‘Friday Fun Times’ to lunch time walks, the team at TwentyTwo knows how to find the perfect balance between having a good time and getting things done at the office.

What I Learnt from my Internship at Twenty Two

1. Collaboration is Key

Working with the team at TwentyTwo showed me the value of different perspectives and strengths in a work environment. During my internship, I was able to develop my skills and grow in ways that I couldn't have done by myself. Being comfortable and able to get along and communicate well with your team is so important, whether it's discussing ideas with others or giving and receiving feedback. Afterall, there is always something unique that you can learn from every member of a team.

2. A Proactive Attitude Goes a Long Way

To get the most out of my internship, I knew I had to step out of my comfort zone and approach each task with a can-do attitude. I took every opportunity I could to get involved, showcase my skills, and share my ideas. There is so much to learn as an intern so be curious and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Remember to go into your internship with an open mind and chase every opportunity that you can!

3. Team Culture Matters

Before joining TwentyTwo, I didn't realise how much workplace culture could impact my motivation and performance. I truly valued the inclusive, fun, and supportive team culture at TwentyTwo, which made a big difference to my experience. Having a positive team environment where each individual’s achievements were recognised helped me feel inspired to learn and grow.

4. The Power of Networking

Master the skill of networking from day one! Building relationships with the people you work with is vital for both career development and work success. It’s all about fostering genuine connections that offer support, guidance, and opportunities. You never know where these connections could lead in the future!

5. It’s Okay to Not Know Everything

It is easy to doubt your abilities and feel like you must have all the answers when you first start off in the industry. However, it is important to recognise that learning is a process and you won’t know everything right away. So, do not let your self-doubts stop you from performing to the best of your abilities. Always be open to feedback from your manager and reflect on your progress while celebrating your achievements. What matters most is your willingness to learn and your ability to grow from mistakes.

Ready to Kickstart Your Career?

This internship exceeded my expectations in every way. Over the last 7 weeks at TwentyTwo, I have gained valuable experience in various areas of digital marketing, insights into agency life and an understanding of the marketing industry as a whole. I am grateful to be leaving with not only practical skills but also a much clearer vision of my career path.

If you are a current student thinking about applying for this internship program, I highly encourage you to take the step to apply! It’s the perfect way to get a head-start on your career and a chance to gain real-world experience that will set you up for future success!
